Cleaning out the lint build up inside your
dryer is very important. The accumulation
of lint can catch fire and spread to your
home. The lint will also act as insulation
on your motor and cause premature
failure. All dryers and there vents should
be cleaned at least once a year. Doing
this will keep your family safe and your
dryer operating.
If your Maytag/Magic Chef dryer heats a little, doesn't dry well, and makes a loud
rumble sound, then the possible failure could be the blower wheel.
The blower wheel is made of plastic. It attachés to the motor and is held there
by a clamp and a couple snap rings. Over time the plastic can wear and round
out the flat spot of the blower wheel. When this happens you get the symptoms
listed above. A good sign that it's a blower wheel, is a loud rumble that
continues for a couple seconds after you stop the dryer.
Here's how to change a blower wheel.
Disconnect the power source to the dryer.
Remove the two screws securing the bottom of the front panel to the frame.
These screws are about 3 inches from the floor.
Once you have removed the screws, pull the bottom of the front panel away from
dryer and down to release the top clips.
Mark the wires (for reassembly) on the door switch and disconnect. You now
can set aside front panel.
Remove the four 5/16 screws securing the front tumbler assembly. You may
also need to remove one wire from the moisture sensor. Now remove the front
tumbler and set aside.
You now have access to the blower housing. Turn the blower wheel with your
finger. If the blower wheel moves without the motor shaft turning as well than it
needs to be replaced. If the blower wheel seems secure, and the motor turns as
you turn the wheel, then check drum supports for cause of the rumble.
If the blower wheel needs to be replace, start by removing the two 5/16 screws
and the 1/4 screws securing the blower housing cover to the blower housing.
With the thermostats and wires still attached, lay cover forward. Remove snap
ring with snap ring pliers and blower wheel clamp.
Remove blower wheel and install new one, aligning flat spot on blower wheel with
flat spot on motor.
If you haven't done so already, use a vacuum to clean lint from dryer.
Reassemble dryer and attach all wires. Make sure when reassembling that the
blower outlet properly inserts into the blower seal.

mechanical and electrical parts that can cause serious injury and death. If you aren't familiar
