Monthly Tip
Cleaning out the lint build up inside your
dryer is very important.  The accumulation
of lint can catch fire and spread to your
home. The lint will also act as insulation
on your motor and cause premature
failure.  All dryers and there vents should
be cleaned at least once a year. Doing
this will keep your family safe and your
dryer operating.
:: Estate Washer Lid Switch ::
Please remember that working on appliances can be dangerous.  Appliances have many
mechanical and electrical parts that can cause serious injury and death.  If you aren't familiar
with these types of applications then please call a qualified appliance technician. Lane
Appliance LLC and this site accept no responsibility for injuries to person or damage to
appliances.
If your top loading washer agitates but wont spin, then you likely have a
problem with the lid switch.  The lid switch is a safety to make sure the lid is
closed during the spin cycle and also other parts of the wash cycle.  Do not
ever bypass the switch as this could cause serious injury to you or another
unsuspecting user.

To check the switch operation,  do the following.

1.  Turn timer knob clockwise to spin.  Pull knob out.  With the lid down, the
washer should spin.  If its not, then try pressing down on the lid near the lid
switch.  Sometimes the switch will activate but still will need to be replaced.

3.  Locate the console and remove the two phillips head screws.  Most
models have them in the front, bottom of the console.  In some of the newer
models they are located in the back, bottom of the console.  Some washers
require you to remove two end caps on the console to access the screws.

4.  After you remove the two screws, slide the console slightly forward and
then up. The console will then hinge to the back of the washer.

5.  With the console now hinged back, locate the lid switch harness.
Disconnect the harness and check for resistance(Ohm Meter-A must have)
between the 2 grey wires(outside) on the lid switch connector connected to
top of washer.  With the lid down the circuit should read no resistance.  If
the circuit is open(infinite resistance) then the switch needs to be replaced.
You can also use a insulated jumper on the lid switch harness to determine
if its the switch.

6.  To replace the lid switch you will now have to remove the cabinet.  Use a
flat head screwdriver to remove the two clips holding the back of the washer
to the outer shell of the washer.

7.  Disconnect the lid switch harness(If not still disconnected).

8.  You can now pull the outer shell away from the washer.  Do this by
grasping the outer shell (I open the lid and grab it there.) and tilt the shell
forward (toward you) and out.   The shell is now removed and you can see
the tub.  Be careful not to bend the outside walls of the shell when removing
and setting aside.  This will help greatly when reinstalling the shell.

9.  Remove the 2 screws attaching switch to cabinet.  Remove the screw
connecting the ground on the cabinet.  Use a flat blade screwdriver to push
tabs on lid switch connector block to remove.  Finally remove the whole
harness from the 2 remaining retainer clips under the cabinet.

10. Install new lid switch harness assembly and reassemble washer.

11.  Check washer for operation and leaks.

12.  Congratulations!  You just saved a lot of money!
